Susan Polk, the woman who declined attorney representation for her defense in the 2002 murder of her husband, Dr. Frank "Felix" Polk, was found guilty of second degree murder.
Polk's first trial ended in a mistrial when the wife of her attorney, Daniel Horowitz, was murdered. Polk declined legal representation for the second trial and successfully argued that she was not insane, opening the door for the guilty verdict she received.
My faithful followers, so many of you have commented that I make defending women in murder cases look so easy. I am grateful for such comments and always strive for such degrees of success that the perception of ease is universal. The Polk case, which I would have won with little effort had I been selected to represent the defendant, is testament to the value provided by a strong attorney. In this case, the defendant will now have to spend the rest of her life in jail. Pity.
